How to prepare a print file for a folded card

In short

  • CMYK, 300 dpi, fonts outlined, no ICC profiles
  • 2 mm bleed on every side
  • content at least 3 mm from cut and crease lines
  • black text: C0 M0 Y0 K100
  • closed file: PDF (preferred), JPG or TIFF

Design the open sheet

A folded card is designed as one open sheet, not two pages. For A6 folded: 210×148 mm plus bleed = 214×152 mm. The crease runs exactly through the middle. Two-sided = two PDF pages: page 1 = outside (left half is the back, right half the front), page 2 = inside.

Download the template

Below the calculator you will find “Download template”. It is a PDF in the chosen format with cut, crease and safe-margin lines. Design directly on it and hide the guide layer before export.

Bleed and margins

Extend backgrounds 2 mm past the cut line. Keep logos and text at least 3 mm from the cut and the crease.

Colours and hot foil

Save in CMYK. Prepare gold, silver or hologram foil elements in a separate PDF file and upload it in the hot foil field: solid black (K100), no halftones, lines at least 0.5 pt. We apply hot foil on soft-touch lamination. The calculator shows which papers it can be ordered on.

Flat cards

One page (or two for double-sided) in the format plus 2 mm bleed, e.g. A6: 109×152 mm. No crease.
