How to prepare the print file for a printed box

Download the template from the calculator and design on the dieline at 1:1. Artwork 2 mm past the cut line, text 3 mm from cuts and creases, glue flap left blank.

Template

Download the 1:1 PDF template in the calculator once you have entered the box dimensions. It shows the whole dieline: the solid line is a cut, the dashed line a crease, that is a fold line. Panels are labelled with their dimensions and the glue flap is hatched. Design on the template and keep its page size. We add the cutting path ourselves from the same geometry, so you do not need to draw it.

Bleed and margin

Extend the background and artwork 2 mm past the cut line all the way round, flaps and dust flaps included. Keep important content such as text, logos and codes 3 mm from the cut line and from creases. A solid background can run across creases, but small text should not, because the board cracks slightly in the fold.

Which panel goes where

The middle of the dieline holds four panels in a row: front, side, back, side. The flaps above and below them are the lid and the base. The lid is seen from above, so it is a good place for a logo or name. Dust flaps and tongues end up inside, so background is enough there. In the calculator you can view the box in 3D and check which part of the dieline lands on which panel.

Glue flap

The narrow flap at the edge of the dieline is where the glue goes. Leave it blank: glue holds best on bare board, and once folded the flap is hidden under a panel anyway.

Inside and kraft

We print only the outside, so the file has one page. If you want a white, smooth inside, choose board coated on both sides. We print in CMYK without white, so on grey kraft light colours come out darker and white elements take the colour of the board. Dark, bold artwork works best there.

File format

Before exporting, delete or hide the template lines, labels and hatching so they do not get printed. Send one CMYK PDF with fonts embedded or converted to outlines and images at 300 dpi.
